Restoration painting
What each step looks like
A small demonstration of what we typically do when restoring the exterior of a home. On a full exterior, the same nine steps are carried out across every weatherboard, sill and piece of trim.

01Strip damaged paint
Failing coatings come off, back to sound timber.
02Oil based sealer
Soaks into bare timber and binds the grain.
03Skim fill entire surface
The whole surface is filled, not just the holes.
04Orbital sand
Fill and timber sanded back to one flat plane.
05Water based sealer
Seals the fill and evens out the surface.
06Patch fill
A finer pass at anything the sealer revealed.
07Top coat
The first full coat of the finish.
08Defect check
Every surface checked before the final coat.
09Top coat x2
The final coat, over proper preparation.
